You done gone and woke Scott up! You happy now?

All kidding aside, I try to participate when I can, but sometimes life gets in the way. And not all threads have to be actioned packed, even though some get the wrong kind of action going!

Some post have weeded out the barely inteterested types and those who needed a push to move onto something else, but from what I can tell, the core group is still here. Some boards are down right nasty and can make people quite and burn their computers, like the H.A.M.B., but this one seems to give everyone a fair chance and what you do with that chance is entirely up to you.

Fee or no fee, I like this place!

Thanks again, Scott!

Sounds like a plan to me.

How about user fees? The more you post, the more you pay?

Thanks for the forum Scott.

I'll pay a fee.

I pay a $25.00 a year fee to post on another board I am active on. It is also moderated to its rules very strictly. Not very many rules, but the one or two there are, are strictly enforced. It is an antiquities board with a lot of high powered folks, and the fee weeds out the "Whats this worth?" ebay crowd and the idle chitchat thread diverting crowd. You want access to this kind of expertise, you pay, and you keep a civil tongue in your head.

A yearly fee to be able to post, a very small one even, would weed out,,,well, would weed out a lot of "chaf". Even 5 bucks shows true love. And, it would have the extra added bonus of seeing the true end of anyone banned, unless they have multiple real names and credit card/checking accounts.

Thanks again Scott and MOD's. I like it here.

Orvis

Hmmmm.... Maybe charge 10 cents per post via PayPal. The "Submit" button would be a PayPal button. You would then really be putting your money where you mouth is. There would sure be a lot less bandwidth wasting "me too!" posts for instance.

Of course some of us might have to get a second job which is tough in this economy...

Well, I'm not one of the "originals" that helped start WIX...I'm just one of those guys that seems to post endless, rambling things that may or may not interest folks here. Anyway, I like the way O.P. just put it. I would be willing to pay to participate (if I meet the qualifications), but I am curious...would you have to pay to lurk? The reason I ask is that there are a gazzilion lurkers to this website, or so I hear, that never post. I'm not sure how they directly support the site, but I do know that many members were one time lurkers. Heck, it kinda looks like some of the "originals" here on WIX have become more lurkers than participants...right Beachy? ;-)

No matter what you end up deciding to do, Scott, I'll support WIX however I can.

Gary

I wondered why Swiss Mustangs hadn't posted since January. I sent him an email but no response.

I try to avoid Paypal as much as possible so that ain't gonna work for me. I'd rather we just use the old "honor" system. On the other hand, the "honor" system would create extra monitoring from one of the Mods. (Come to think of it, that's why they get the big bucks ain't it?:hide:)

I will, of course, go along with whatever Scott decides. I just don't like the idea of going through a 3rd party who's going to skim something off the top.
I mean, they don't provide the service for nothing do they?

Yikes but I'm already broke. :?
But, I always try and post something worthwhile and not just links or cheerleading like cool, neat-o or awesome.

Hi Gary, Jack, Mudge, Everyone.....

My suggestion is for posting only, a small yearly fee. Viewing would be free.

One thing it would accomplish is, If gone, you truly will not be able to come back, sooooo, it might make some think twice about that marginal post.

I'm a big fan of idle chitchat, and I'm willing to pay for it here.

I agree many of the core group don't frequent as before, particularly the non US contingent, which made the forum far more interesting in the first few years (8-10 years ago). A lot of this has to do with people bringing their own agendas rather than sticking to 'information exchange' I also think some post for no other reason than that they want to see their post count climb as high as possible, as quickly as possible!. What about doing away with the ranks and post counts? Perhaps less incentive to post insipid drivel??
Anyhoo, it is still the best forum around, despite the problems over recent years.

Dave

I'd pay a small annual fee to be able continue posting.

I think for people thinking of posting for the first time, if paying became a required thing, maybe they'd avoid posting because they weren't sure if they wanted to post or not. And, what if that post held some very interesting information?

How about this?...

The first 5 or 10 posts are free, then after that they are locked from posting until they pay up. It'll allow new people to get a taste without having to pay right away.

Just and idea,

David

Unless you had some fancy back-end code or extra moderators, that could be tricky.

Good idea DMac! I was wondering how a pay-to-use setup would affect the rare posters...we've seen a few
of 'em, the "Hi, I've been lurking here for years, but here's the one and only set of pics of the Fitzelfark 4000.."
