Cool stuff. I wasn't even aware of their existance.

Sounds like an expensive undertaking. Any idea where they're going to find a flying Vampire? There certainly aren't many around, especially the single seater which I assume they're wanting.

I hadn't heard anything about aquiring a Vampire before. I know they have purchased 6 T-33's and they want to get 4 or more Tutors in the near future, they are also looking into restoring a CF-100 to flight condition eventually. I'll talk to Paul (one of the members) and find out about the Vampire.

Ryan this was taken from their site under "ABOUT JAM"


The ultimate objective of the Museum is to have one or more flyable versions of major jet aircraft used by Canada’s armed forces since we entered the military jet age in 1944. These include Canada’s first, the Vampire, the CT-133 T-Bird, CT-114 Tutor and others.

Yeah I just noticed that when I was looking at the site. I talked to Paul, here's what he said:

Thought I would bring everyone up to date on the imminent arrival of our first 3 T-Birds.

The 3 are currently at Mountainview airport, and are going to be moved on Wednesday, Apr 15th. As we only have one pilot available, and a 4 hour window to move the aircraft from Mountainview, the first 2 aircraft will be flown over to Trenton, ON (10 minute hop), starting at approximately 0730. The third aircraft will depart by 1130, and will fly directly to London, ON. Arrival in London should be approximately 1200. Expect to see a couple of passes before the wheels are down. The following day, the other 2 T-Birds will arrive in London, though I don't know what time yet. We don't have the same time restrictions at Trenton as Mountainview. I'll post any more news as I get it.

FYI.

Genesee Warbirds in Batavia, New York is alive and well. Last year the Board of Trustees went through a major change over and as such had a slow year in this regard. However, we did receive a donation of both a MiG 15 and a Vampire. Here is the current status:

Genesee Warbirds is a classic jet warbird museum and currenlty owns the following aircraft: MiG 15uti (currently under going full restoration); deHavilland Vampire (two seater); Fouga Magister CM-170. The museum also has three Hispano HA-200s (aka Casa Jets) on loan from members. The original single seat Vampire owned by Al Rubin of Toronto is no longer associated with Genesee Warbirds. It is our understanding that Al will donate that single seat Vampire to a Canadian museum where its flying days will end. The Genesee Warbirds collection will be maintained in flying condition. :D The museum has several additional jets ready to be brought in but has been limited by hangar space.

Currenlty the museum is operating out of four T-Hangars. Negotiations with Genesee County for a land lease have stalled. No agreement has yet been reached. If a land lease can be agreed upon, then Genesee Warbirds will build its own restoration and display facilities. More jets will then arrive, all to be restored to flying condition.

Interesting about the availability of Vampires. I'll let the board know, but I think it may be a while until we're ready for that...we're just getting started. Want to get the 6 T-birds going first. Interestingly, one of our T-Birds (133500) was an original T-Bird Golden Hawk. Found a picture here:

Thats cool! You guys sould paint it up like that. That would be sweet to see in formation with Hawk One.

Thought I would give everyone a heads up on the arrival of our first 3 aircraft, in case you happen to be around London (CYXU).

The first T-Bird should arrive: Wednesday around noon

The second T-Bird should arrive: Possibly also Wednesday around noon in Formation otherwise Thursday around 11:00 a.m.

The third T-Bird should arrive: Thursday around 11:00 a.m. alone or in Formation depending on Wednesday’s success

Weather looks good for tomorrow. Looking forward to getting these birds home.

T-BIRD UPDATE (8:45 a.m Wednesday)



One T-Bird (573) is in the air and going to Trenton!!!



We expect 500 and 346 to arrive in formation around noon today!



We are rushing the pilots back to Trenton (figuratively speaking because it’s a 172) to then hopefully bring 573 in to London TODAY at 17:00-18:00 or so depending on the turn around time.
