Cockpit video, T-28A landing

Made at Fredricksburg Texas last weekend at a club get together by my passenger. Just a lazy ol pattern on a cool Sunday morning...

I've never flown or ridden in a T-28. How much power do you carry on final at what is your approach speed?

I don't think that was a bad or rough landing. That shake was more from the camera operator who was hand holding the camera. Any landing will make the camera jerk like that.

Hey, easy now! That was a squeeker for me! (but don't ask about the day before).

It is usually a very easy 100kts on final, 90kts over the fence. I am pretty much head out of the cockpit here but the R-1300's rpm is up to 2400 and I imagine I am carrying mid/low 20's on the MAP. Depends on weather, how much flap and all.

Seriously, I was joking about the landing. You did a great job, as you know without me saying... Thanks for the info on the power settings.

Cool shots. Funny how much faster even the visual on this video is compared to my landings in the Citabria. Fun to see. Don't talk about squeeks to me. :roll:

I can take the tread off with the best of them. :lol:

But boy it is cool when you hit all your numbers and you can't feel the touch down. :wink:

Why is it that the T28 doesnt have head rests for the pilots?

Did NAA overlook that as if you jerk your neck on landing it could be bad i think?

Got home at 3. On Saturday when the winds were gusting so high, my landing gear and I were reminded that its not so much when the wind gusts, its when the gust goes away... glad she was also designed for student/carrier landings. Lesson (re) learned to carry a little more speed than I did when the winds are gusting that high.

Interesting point on the headrest. Perhaps because in landing, the stress is primarily not in the longitudinal Gx axis, but rather axially down the spine in a Gz axis which would not be helped by a headrest as much with landing accellerations.

Yes, gusty Saturday was one of those days where after you taxi to park, you look extra carefully on that post flight walkaround. Every pilot reading this has probably been there...

Cool. You sure have a nice view with the big canopy and tricycle gear. I went ahead and watched the startup, takeoff, and steep turn videos in the directory too.

When you take pilot friends up for a hop that have mostly flown high wing stuff, the visibility of the full canopy just blows them away. Even coming from an SNJ as I did, it is still amazing.

Though the sunburn you get is annoying...
