A place where restoration project-type threads can go to avoid falling off the main page in the WIX hangar. Feel free to start threads on Restoration projects and/or warbird maintenance here. Named in memoriam for Gary Austin, a good friend of the site and known as RetroAviation here. He will be sorely missed.

Hey, Scott, no problem.
It's cool to spot something that may be of use to someone else! Neat bit of film, with lots of good info and a few high cheese moments...

That is a neat truck! I was under the impression that all the M-6 trucks were open-cab--I didn't know about this prewar version.
I'd sure like to find one of those closer to home.....

Just a little update on that CCKW auger truck from last page--we drove past last weekend and it seems someone finally moved the truck. I don't know if it is being saved or scrapped, but it is gone. One less temptation for me to think about........

i looked at this thread when it 1st surfaced , & ignored it up to now, i thought it would be boring. man was i wrong!! a great thread with awesome pics!! a cool project. to look at that bomb trailer i'd never guess it weighs as much as it does. i noticed the 1 bomb hauling vehicle with the big hook....... i recall 1 in the original tora tora tora movie.

Thanks, Tom. I find this thread exceedingly boring right now since I haven't worked on the trailer for a couple of months!

Another trailer owner is going to measure his fuse box when the snow melts up north so I can build the one for ours. Other than that I have just been spraying Aerokroil on the moving parts so they will move again. One luxury I'm not used to is that there isn't a deadline to get the trailer done.
I am really thankful for all the wartime photos that everyone has contributed to the thread. Those are the best references I could ask for, especially to build the rails and box.
I promise I'll post in-progress photos once I start cutting metal.

These trailers are very similar to the running gear under a lot of farm wagons from that general timeframe. I would assume they are much lighter and easier to transport than the one I'm restoring, making them easier to haul around the globe. The Navy and Marines also used a really neat Ford bomb truck, totally different than the AAF version.

Thank you for the offer, Mark. It just so happens that my New England contact emailed me the measurements on Saturday. He told me that the snow had melted and he could get out to his trailer to measure the box. I sent him this picture on Sunday morning of our trailer after 8 or 10" fell at our house in Oklahoma Saturday.
The good thing is that it all melted by late Sunday night.
If you are able, I would like a photo of the inside of the box, especially the shelving that is built in to the left side (if yours has it).

It appears that I'm going to get going on the M-5 again fairly soon. I've got some painting to do on the house and tractor shed and a bunch of other little chores, but then it'll be time to finally get back to work on the ol' bomb trailer. I'd like to think I might get the fuse/tool box built this winter, at least......
A favor--does anyone have a photo, original, or copy of the chart that should be inside the box lid? I'd like to at least make a facsimile of it for our project. Thanks in advance.
Scott
