Andrew,
When I was there, after touring through the museum, we took the hangar restoration tour and then we walked out on the flightline and over to the Connie, parked out in the grass, and could, touch, feel and take all the pictures we wanted. To top the day off, While we were out there looking at the Connie, Jack Roush "buzzed" us a couple times in his P-51, then landed and visited with us and Kermit for a few minutes. This was during Speedweek at Daytona
I didn't see any problem getting access (once you paid to get in)

Well hopefully I will have the same sorta experiences that your guys had at Fantasy of Flight...
Do you recommend that I try to take the hangar restoration tour early in the day...I plan on being there as soon as it opens.
Eric...Look forward to seeing your article in Canadian Flight on FoF

I hate to see this plane gutted for parts...

humm...
Well I guess some good with come of those parts towards getting the other Starliner in the air..
Hopefully the FoF Connie will retain enough of her parts so that she will still look complete at least externally...

I believe on my last visit there, I had heard that they were looking at converting her to a theater to show aviation video/movies inside. Shame they are not restoring her to flying. Only so much staff and money to spread among the fleet.

Andrew,
Sorry for the late post. I haven't been on WIX for several days. Anyway, We took the hangar restoration tour right after lunch. They have a good restaurant just inside and to the right of the main entrance. A little pricey, but the food was good.

Maurice came to our QB meeting a few years ago and gave a talk on the connie and especially the ferry flight from sanford over to fantasy of flight. It was a great presentation especially considerating the hydraulic and flap extension issues that arose during the approach. All things considered, especially the florida location FOF is most likely the best outcome for this connie. I still hate the thought of it never seeing flight again.

Ok I just visited FoF on Wednesday...we arrvived at 10am and stayed till 330pm...
The tram tours happened at 10:45, 11:45 and 3:30pm
The restoration shop tour happened at 2:15pm and was very popular (i.e. lots of people)
The aerial demonstration happened at 1:30pm
And yes I did take about 20 pictures of the Connie on the grass...thankfully she does look very complete from the outside...just needs TLC to refreshen up her tired exterior....
I have a great time at FoF...and managed to take a few hundred pictures of the collection....
The collection of engines at both the live maintenance hangar and backlot does make one droll....

And one has to wonder which A/C is in which container stacked every where.....

And a tour of that other storage building located across the street from FoF would be very interesting as apparently it is full of planes and parts as well.
Apparently they still have great a number of R2800 still sealed in their storage container bins.
