Did you have a lot of fun trying to shoot decent stuff inside the MoF's Dungeon of Darkness...oh, I'm sorry, Gallery of Heros, or Hall of Heros, or whatever P.Allen calls it. You were about 5 minutes from my house when you were @ the FHC @ KPAE.

I've got a question for you Chris...
When I was down at the FHC I found it horribly difficult to get good shots of the airplanes because of the bright lighting in the hangar. I was just using a little digital camera (Canon A570is) and found it hard, even in manual mode to make the airplanes show up well.
Any suggestions? I only ask because your shots came out quite nicely! Does it have to do more with shutter speed, or flash? or?

I've got an Olympus 500 UZ that never moves from the auto position. Like I said, I'm no photographer however it was cloudy outside so there wasn't much glare. About the only thing I did was take two of everything. One with and one without the flash. Thank God for digital. I'll post the Navy birds tomorrow.

Ahh...shooting at FHC. It's not easy and just takes some time and playing with the camera for pretty much every shot. I tried using a low ISO of 50 or 100, I used the flash and an exposure of roughly 1/50 - 1/100.

Is the 109E at MOF a converted Buchon? The cowl contours don't look quite right, and the oil cooler bath definately looks fake.

I didn't realize the RAF flew Mig 15 UTI's in the desert campaign in WW2!
Some 'back story' on the 'NASA' F-104 hanging from the rafters @ MoF, it actually is a C and was last marked as being @ George AFB before getting the spurious NASA chase paint job (straight out of 'F-104 In Action, they passed on the dayglo scheme because it was too hard to paint) several years ago @ the MoF restoration facility @ KPAE. Not certain about the 109E @ MoF as it is as owned by Champlin so perhaps someone else...?
It is unfortunate, but since P.Allen is the bank roller of the Dank Dungeon of Dead Airplanes, nothing will be done to eliminate the clutter or darkness. I was there a couple of years ago and a High School field trip was in attendance. I passed a small group of kids who were trying to find the FOKKER DR-1 for their 'discovery' sheets, I went past, stopped and went back and pointed sraight up, there it was, painted gloss black in the gloom and about 10 feet from the rafters, the only items making it visible were the white cowl and wheels.
