L-2 Question

Sun Mar 08, 2009 10:32 am

We have a "new" L-2 in the hangar and we are getting exhaust stain on the right main gear leg.

Has any one experienced this is the past? Do I need to fabricate an exhaust gas deflector?

Can you shoot me an email on this?

Next time I'm at the hangar, I'll take a few shots of the heat stains on the gear leg.

thanks

Just don't fly it at night, all that fire blowing on the fabric will scare you.

Here are some photos of what I'm referring to:

Is this the shape and angle of the stock tail pipe?

that is not the stock tail pipe, but the stains are nothing to worry about, if it was going to hurt the fabric, it would have done so a long time ago. Look as it as a badge that only living Warbirds get to wear.

Just to settle your doubts, swing by the kitchen department of your local mega mart and pick up a $15 digital oven thermometer with the probe on an extension that you stick into a roast and tape the readout somewhere that you can easily see it while doing touch and goes to see exactly what the higest temp is on the strut-

Maybe not as odd as I thought. Here are some shots of the L-2 I've flown.

The same thing happens on our cub. If it gets too bad you may have a leak in the exhaust... Gary noticed my exhaust crack at MAF AIRSHO due to paint discoloration and he fixed it for me right then and there when he could have been doing other things... great guy!

Thanks Guys!
