WHAT:
Considered to be one of Japan’s most secret weapons, the I-400was the world’s largest submarine and underwater aircraft carrier. Itsmission – to destroy the Panama Canal. Gary and Henry will sharewith us 22 minutes of actual color footage, not seen before by the public, of the I-400’s capture in August of 1945 and her sinking off thecoast of Hawaii on June 6, 1946.

Planes of Fame has restored and displays the largest collection of rare and historic Japanese aircraft from WWII including the G4M1 “Betty Bomber,” J2M3 Raiden, J8M1 Shusui, and the only original flying Mitsubishi A6M5 Zero Fighter in the world.

Sunk off of Hawaii in 46? I wonder what condition it is in now... Where is the Hughes Glomar Explorer when ya need it?

Hughes really had nothing to do with the Glomar Explorer. It was owed and operated by Global Marine Corporatiion. The retired CEO that did do the recovery has his own airport here and has some very interesting artifacts of the Explorer in his hangar. Hughes was just a cover.

Yup, that is the story I've heard too. If the Navy freaks about a recovered Buffalo I'd love to see their faces if someone proposed raising one of those subs j/k
