Wade,
Regarding getting a still frame, I'm not familiar with the program that you mentioned, but I use a program called "Cinematize" for taking DVD's and putting them into various formats for editing. I then put it into Final Cut and can get a frame from there-iMovie would do it as well.

Hi Bret -

Looking back at that post, I definitely wasn't clear - I meant I wanted to 'grab' a frame (a screenshot); I wasn't looking to capture video.

"Fraps" works fine for screenshots from almost all of my DVDs, but the 4th FG film I have is "Export-Controlled", which I think is something embedded into the DVD that distorts any attempts at screenshots (and, video captures too, I presume). Next time I'm up in my studio I'll grab a [distorted] frame to illustrate what I mean.

Just for fun, here's a few 'grabs' I just did from DVDs I have ...

From the 4th FG film (can't grab a 'normal' full frame from this one)-

From the IMAX film Fighter Pilot: Operation Red Flag -

OK, a hint (this guy and his relatively unknown little band have gotten me through many a long painting session) :D -

Why, that is Mr. David Gilmour of Pink Floyd and I think the grab is from the recent PF doc about the group "Which one's Pink?" or the Behind the Album DVD, right?

Cinematize will allow for the conversion of some copy protection formats (not that I would advocate that, mind you.) That's why I mentioned it.
There used to be some freeware/shareware programs that would do that too-not sure if they're still out there though.

That was a hard one, eh? Yes, that's David G. from the "Making of" DVD about Dark Side of the Moon. All of the guys, even Roger Waters, go really in-depth about the album. Gilmour does a lot of impromptu playing as well.
