Fascinating pic...where & when? It's especially interisting because there are a couple of three-tone birds mixed in with the group. It's hard to tell due to the high contrast and low resolution, but the planes appear to have red-bordered insignia, putting the pic in the summer/fall of '43. Also, I've never seen Hellcats in the Atlantic scheme before.

The "hash mark " on the tail of # 37 looks consistent with aircraft from VF-5 and VF-1 on Yorktown. I am wondering if this is just a real faded pic of VF-5 aircraft during the shakedown or early part of their deployment?

That'a just a blurred faded photo of Air Group 5 on the USS Yorktown in late 43 around the time of the Marcus Island raids.
