From The Life Photo Archives. About the best B-36 shot I ever seen.

" Four burning, four churning, and two at ease "
Not in this case, but I always loved that B-36 quote

Nice! Hadn't see that shot before, and I' ve seen a LOT of B-36 photos!

One version of the phrase I heard on the old Delphi Cold Warriors forum is, "Two burning, two turning, two joking, and two smoking." Yes, that's only a total of eight. 8)

"6 turning, 4 burning...sometimes..."
That's how I always heard it as a kid.

I hate to rain on your parade, but it's highly unlikely that's ever going to happen.

It took a huge effort on the part of the USAF and the manufacturer to keep the beasts airborne - something like 800 maintenance hours per flight hour. (Case in point: each engine had 56 spark plugs.) And that was with an operating supply chain and warehouses of new spres.

I've spent a fair amount of time around warbirds, including some large ones. I've also crawled all over and through #2827, literally nose to tail turret and wingtip to wingtip (including the in-the-wing access tunnel).

A Peacemaker is a LOT of airplane.

Think about what the CAF has to go through to keep Ol' 927 or FIFI in the air, then look at this picture:

Take a close look at the interior details in this photo set: http://www.flickr.com/photos/mdowney/sets/72157601517673623/ and remember that the NMUSAF's bird was flown in and parked, not restored from parts.

Geesh...here we go again. If I am reading it right, Nathan said he would love to see one fly. Otherwise known as daydreaming  When he and I win our respective lotteries, we are gonna pool our money and get one flying just to PI$$ off all the naysayers! Ya with me Nathan??? You buy the gas and I will buy the beer...invite a couple of our female friends along and off we will go into the wild blue yonder :P

Now that sounds cool. You could gut the aft pressure compartment, and outfit it with shag carpeting, king-size waterbed, kick-a$$ sound system, and even a lighted dance floor and disco ball! Make it the travelling headquarters of the Mile High Club! 8)

Seriously, though..I would also love to see a Peacemaker fly, but I'll just have to settle for experiencing it vicariously through Jimmy Stewart. Judging by the earlier thread about the Vulcan, I think a B-29 (or two) or C-97 are probably the biggest recip-powered warbirds we'll ever see flying.

Groovy idea there Steve...OK, you are in as well. You can be in charge of interior decorating...remember to buy your lottery tickets...Nathan is probably gonna need help with the gas money.

Had another thought as well...the way Eric attracted the honeys with his Skyraider at the Goshen Air Show, we could get him to park next to our B-36 on the ramp and voila...party time

...just dreaming...

Yeah I am in. We will get a B-36 flying someday. Its not daydreaming either! :P For all those non believers out there I will be sure to fly low over your house when we get the B-36 flying!!!

Now on the other hand its not quite fair for me to have to pay for ALL the gas! Holy crap!  Well if I gotta buy all of the gas you be damned I am gonna be the pilot then and I will not let anyone else fly it! haha

So thats good we got three people here that promise to make a B-36 fly if they win the lotto. Now lets see...3 people playing the lotto out of 50.4 million people? Yeah, I say we got a chance now!  :!:

How about we leave off the bombay doors and put down glass flooring and make that the dance floor! 8) It would be like dancing on air!
