Crossing into Callie today on I-40...I couldn't help wondering if anyone has ran across the two A-36 Apache's that were supposed to have crashed in the Fenner Hills close to the town of Goffs...or....closer to Ludlow...the PBY that crashed NW of town on Old Woman Mountain..

The wreckage of these two airplanes have been located according to the reference book:

The wreckage is probably still there. Gary Macha and Don Jordan have probably visited the sites at one time or another. A wreckchaser friend of mine from Arizona has also visited the sites. You will probably have to get the accident reports and do the hard work of finding the wrecks yourself as the wreck chasing community does not give out co-ords to people they do not know.

One of the Apaches is A-36A # 42-83763, which crashed on 2-12-43.

Hey Tony...I'm gettin too old and fat to be runnin around the dessert! That's why I was still wondering!
I have the book that you mentioned, very informative and excellent...I did run across the aprox locations of these aircraft wrecks long before reading the book. Just had not heard if anyone had visited the crash sites...would be interesting to see some photos...I also wonder if all of what remained of the A-36's were carted off by a scrapper or someone that would try to restore them...Kinda like the crashed P-39 that had been sitting in the dessert, but recovered....(What happened to it?)

I am embarrassed to say that I haven't purchased your books yet...As much as I am fascinated by aviation history, and the poor souls that gave their lives for their country and us.

Let me see if I can hunt up the photos from the Arizona guy.

If you're old & fat, you probably haven't been "runnin around the dessert", but rather running to it...

Maybe some runnin around the desert would help with the weight...

Robbie, in defence of myself, I do run around the desert in an 18 wheeler..I am guilty of running to the dessert though!
