What-ifs (or "Whiffers" as their sometimes called) are a blast once in awhile, escpecially if you're like me and your projects often get mired down trying to make them accurate.

I contributed an article to the site about a model I built of Santa's space shuttle.

What is that on top of the Hurricane's right wing?

And what markings are those on the Thunderbolt float plane? Sory, but that airplane doesn't look plausible with those spindly booms.

That's not a Hurricane, it's a Bulton-Paul Defiant (looks similar, though.) The right wing appears to have ammunition and armament doors cut out. The real Defiant never had wing guns, making the model a "what if."

I don't recognize the markings on the T-bolt floatplane thing..I think they were just something the builder made up.

The T-Bolt-floatplane-thing looks like one of the planes from Microsoft's "Crimson Skies" or another video game of similar premises.

as a kid, most of my frankenstein warbird models made from parts usually ended up being blown up with fire crackers.

No, I saw that one! I blew the Defiant recognition. I didn't realize those were supposed to be ammo bays- I thought they were some kind of odd rocket rails.
