Here is something I used to do for the AZ wing newsletter, it is a word search puzzle, words can be spelled in ANY direction, You have to answer the question to find the word to look for.
Lets see how you can do,

Image

To win, you must scan and post a image of the completed puzzle, with your word list, if you cannot post it, email it to me.

Winner gets one of Jack's ponies

dakota
invader
apache
devastator
commando
mosquito
dominator
airacobra
kingcobra
p-64
eagle
corsair

Remembering that the Apache was once called the Invader took the longest. That was fun. Matt, is there some software to generate these types of word games?

Randy nailed them, I guess I need to try harder next time.

I was wondering how many would get the Invader, and the P-64

Jack will send the pony via mail, but don't be surprised if it gets lost enroute, or eaten.

Yes, it is computer generated, I just did a google search on word puzzle generators

Matt - I've been under the weather so I enjoyed your brain teaser - even worked on it while waiting to see the doc a while ago - thank goodness not the flu, "just" a stomach virus which I think I'm about over. Frankly, the unamed fighter was a good one and I must admit than when I saw a "-" I looked around and voila!

Great little puzzle! Too bad I don't have a scanner at the office. A couple notes: Besides A4 showing up, there's at least one more plane in there. It's the predecessor to plane in the fourth clue.

Also - The P-64 didn't have a name but I don't think the P-35 did either.

If there are any other plane names in there, it was not intentional. I picked the words, the program did the rest filling in the letters at random.

Technically, I don't know if Randy won.
He has all the answers correct, but some how his scanned, "finished" puzzle is missing one answer.
He didn't circle "Commando".
Should that count? :x
Should I quickly scan mine so I can win? :D
What's the prize anyways?

Oh that's right...never mind!

Nice quiz Matt, lot's of fun.

Ah - good eye Jerry - I found that one while in the doctors office and didn't have a pencil on me and sure enough, I never marked it when I got home. I'll blame it on a side effect of a stomach virus - can't recommend that by the way. Who wants Jack pony - you might want to take it to the vet first :D

Here is a corrected markup for those interested.

It was still fun. Randy

It was the Fisher/General Motors P-75 Eagle, part of a Feb 1942 request for a fighter/interceptor design. The original design used a large number of existing parts from other aircraft, including the wings of the P-40, tail of the Douglas A-24/SBD and F4U Corsair landing gear. Here is a wikipedia link with some info and pictures:

Yep, you can see how it would stick in one's mind. In fact, I think it qualifies as an official Nightmare! All the best.
