I dont think it would be too hard. The hardest thing would be to find a owner thats cool with bastardizing his gazelle lol. For static though, it wouldnt be hard at all, we still have alot of the tooling in our storage containers for both rambo 3 and blue thunder

Watched Rambo III today with the added knowledge of your

Back to BT for a while: did you also do the Hughes 500 gunship
mods for that film, do you know the ID of the AS.350 news chopper?

yes the puma became the "star" of the movie. Dad told me when they got the helicopters over there, after assembling them they were test flown up and down the border of the airport. Seeing a helicopter in russian markings the Isreali police were flooded with calls of the russian "hind" that had somehow infiltrated the defenses. the entire city was in panic for about 45 min because they hadnt been told about the filming.

As for BT, we made the camera mount for the Main camera ships. it was modular and could be moved from ship to ship. the other chopper you speak of im not quite sure

I have to admit, I'm kind of sad about the fact that Blue Thunder no longer exists. It was such an iconic aircraft during the 1980's, I figured some collector somewhere would have snapped it up for their collection, even if it had been just a static display. Looking again at those pictures, it really was a phenomenally unique chopper!! As a kid, I always felt that the Apache was a cheap knock off.

Anyone else remember the Wang Inc. commercial where the CEO was swatting flies, then finds Blue Thunder hovering at his window?

I spotted Blue Thunder last night.

I was watching the first episode of McGyver and Blue Thunder made a brief appearance wearing grey paint and eastern bloc markings.

Just to confuse matters...circa 200 I saw a civil Bell JetRanger flying over my home in Texas with a modified greenhouse, large flat panes very much like the Blue Thunder Gazelle.
I wondered if it was a aftermarket mod for foreign military sales or a film prop. It wasn't locally based, it looked like it was on a cross country, headed west at 200 feet.

I did get to see Airwolf up close at the bell distributor at Van Nuys in 1984. A very impressive aircraft.
It was a dark metallic gray...what Testors called anthracite.

Hi, just joined up and I'm trying to do a diorama with the huey and the puma/hind that was used on Rambo II. During the movie you only see a closeup of the left side during the heli machine gun side battle. The camouflage pattern on it is very precise looking and I'm wanting to get this right. I'm hoping that the person or company who made this chopper for the movie has some build pics or behind the scenes pics they will hopefully post up here.

I'm into BT rather than the Rambo birds, after seeing the photos I just had to comment. My mother taped the movie for me when I was little and I just about wore it out through repeated viewings. I've never seen any construction photos or photos not taken during filming, these are real gems. Thank you so, so much for posting!

And a flyable BT conversion to take to airshows is on my "to do" list if I ever come into some money!
