Good question - I don't know. Something like 70 airworthy in the UK, a similar number in Australia, and good numbers in the USA, Canada, New Zealand and Europe, particularly France, Italy and Germany. So say 300+ airworthy with several times that number in preservation?

News flash! The new issue of Classic Wings has just solved a mystery item on Lone Star's Tiger.
On page 23 there is a short piece about a fellow with a Tiger fuselage on top of his car and makes special note about the small square hole in the left side behind the rear cockpit. It's for the first aid kit! He states that originally it was covered with a 'tear-away' patch. Ours was completely skinned over and no one knew it was there until we peeled the fabric doing hurricane damage recovery after Ike. The author also states that it was a feature fitted to all RAAF Tigers in WWII but Lone Star's T-7467 is RAF.
Any comments?

P.S. Lone Star should be open pretty soon.

So it's not just RAAF then. ;) Let me have a pic of it and I'll see what I can find out.

Lone Star is tentatively looking at official re-opening next weekend. I'll let you know more in a few days. I've aquired my digital camera since my last visit down there, so it will ge a workout next visit. Many of the last roll of film I took there were grainy with poor color resolution, the stuff I tried to send to the fellows in the UK.
