The Merlin X engines tell us this was a Mark II, of which 400 were produced.

Looks cold and wet. What is that bomb tractor? A modified Bren? Turn the camera a bit to the left please!

Affirmative. The good ole Bren, I have learned to love them and would like to add one to my collection of WW2 armor someday.

Interesting shot Jack. Any more info on the 'Malta' bit? The mud and lack of tropical kit worn by the 'erks' make me suspect it may have been taken somewhere a bit cooler, but I'm happy to be proved wrong on that.

Interesting, isn't it? However I'm pretty sure it's Malta as the Bren Gun Carrier is painted in the famous (and unique) Malta camouflage - I don't recall examples of that anywhere but the Maltese islands.

That said I didn't think there was enough 'not rock' to make mud on Malta!
