As I said above, the camera port in the radio hatch makes it a PR or (unlikely) FR version - not a VIII. If Peter A says it's a PR.XI, that is good enough for me. ;)

The Lockheed is a French Naval aircraft. It is highly possible that the photo is indeed in French Indochina, Vietnam. There were several trips done by the Ventura's of the navy post war to the area. Check out the following website (use the web translator to convert to english) for more information!

By the looks of all the dress uniforms standing around the Lockheed. Looks like it might have been carrying someone of some significance.

One with the Spitfire is possibly Saigon also...no Spitfires operated in China but in the confusion after the Japanese surrender the RAF, with Spitfires, and the British Army arrived in Vietnam to keep order until the French arrived back. They even kept the Japanese armed to help keep order.

A2C wrote Not necessarily, could have been one on a cross country flight from Burma. Impossible to speculate.

Nothing is impossible and if you look at the posting above from PeterA

681 Squadron RAF operated a detachmnet of PR Spitfires out of Ton Son Nhut Airbase just outside Saigon during December 1945 - Jnauary 1946.

it all fits in...

Had a 'deja vu' experience two nights ago...

...after seeing the 'terminal' the French Lockheed was parked in front of on here, I was parked in Hanoi right in front of and facing into, a similar building with a slightly higher 'tower' that now seems to be used for some sort of administrative function...
