LSFM's newest aircraft! (pics)

Im glad to announce that LSFM now has its newest aircraft in the fleet back down on the island! She's fresh out of the paint shop and looking great. The Texan is painted as a tribute to the 111th Fighter Squadron of the Texas Air National Guard. The 111th has served the Houston area since 1917 and our T-6 is painted to resemble their T-6's from the 1950s. She will soon be added to the list of aircraft for flight experiences along with the B-17, B-25 & PT-17.

You can see that the hangars are still in the process of being repaired from "Ike" in pics one and two... They dont belong to LSFM but are across the ramp.
Also a Cessna T-41 was donated to LSFM last month. This might be added to the "Flight Experiences" as well! It great to see two new hangar mates!

AT-6F's and SNJ-6's were built by NAA at Hensley Field in Grand Prairie, TX with provisions for the gun in the right wing, one firing through the prop and a simple reflector gun sight. The AT-6F/SNJ-6 were unique in that the swivel rear seat was deleted, had a fixed rear canopy enclosure and provisions for a flexible gun in back were deleted as well. After they were re-designated T-6F's around 1947, you may be correct that gun provisions were no longer used/needed at that point in their careers.

I beg to differ. I have owned a T-6G, and have performed many annual inspections on different versions of the AT/T-6 family, and only the "G" came from the factory equipped with prop spinners. They are not shown in the maintenance/erection manuals or the illustrated parts manuals for any other than the G's.
Many aircraft have them, but they were not original equipment on them.

Now to get to the issue of not accurate. This is owned by a museum, its not a run of the mill warbird. Museum pieces and artifacts should be representative or should be original condition. Don't get me wrong, its a nice airplane, but its no museum piece.

Since when did an airplane used for ride experiences become a "museum piece"? It's a living, breathing, flying piece of history just like every other flying warbird. I for one wouldn't want a pristinely restored "museum piece" flying every weekend. I'd want the best maintainable aircraft that looks the part it's supposed to play. There will always have to be some trade-off.

BTW, unless I missed something, the first mention of a T-6F was by Stoney, not by anyone at or associated with LSFM. Everything on their site and what Elroy posted says just "T-6", so where in the world did this argument come from anyway?
