I think I worked on this bird back in 1983 at Long Beach.I think it was one of three Dave Tallichet managed to get out of Thailand.I am glad to see it underway to fly.I did not know the history which is really cool. Thanks for posting the pic.

 I thought I had bought this aircraft from DT. Paid deposit etc etc and was gazumped. not happy..

I first came across this A-1 and her three sisters in Thailand 1975 at the end of the SE Asian wargames. I was in the area with the RAAF during that period and tried to buy one from US/ThaiMAG - General Heine Aderholdt - great guy. Problem was we had no way of mocing them then as thewar had ended and we could not fly them as they were technically owned by the US however on the VNAF inventory which now did not exist! All four for $20K,,,,,,,,ah well..

It's been a year since the photos in WD. Two months ago I dropped a kind email to Mr Melton in care of the Tennessee Museum of Aviation just to see how things were coming and to possibly learn if this bird was going to be based in TN. No reply.

Any news, WIXers?? :?

Always great to see another "Sandy" in the Air. There are a few of us "Eleven Bravo Bullet Catchers" who got to see the A-1's first hand.
They certainly were a comfort, their loiter time was great, and they could certainly carry a bunch of ordanance. Just find a deep hole and let them Air Force "Boys" "Get Some".

I got a reply from the museum today. The plane is still undergoing restoration. The paint scheme will be Lt. America, as flown by Lt. Randy Scott.

I was assured there would be an announcement on the museum's website when they knew an arrival date.

Hopefully, it will be at the museum by the next time I visit on Sep. 27 at the fall warbird gathering.

Speaking of Skyraiders, does anyone know where the ex- Swedish target tug Cham Gill had stored at Chino went? I can't remember seeing it sitting in the junk yard back about a month ago.

The wait just got shorter. As mentioned in another thread this plane has been booked to attend Thunder Over Michigan July 18-19. That means I will see her at some point this year. Hopefully, at the spring warbird gathering at the plane's home base. Or the unannounced "Warbird Tribute" event listed on the museum homepage: http://www.tnairmuseum.com/index.htm (scroll to the right)

I just received a reply from the museum also. The airplane is "still in CO" undergoing restoration. Does anyone know where? Details? Photos?
