I have an A-2 jacket I ordered from US Authentics (flightjacket.com). I have Walt Beckham's "Little Demon" noseart painted on it with the tail code YJ*X and 5 kill marks (white circles with swastikas). He had 18 victories, but I chose just 5 to show the fact he made ace. I proudly wear it in spring and fall, and have never heard a negative comment about it. I do have to mention that when I requested the kill marks that the guys at US Authentics refused to paint the swastikas. So I had them just paint the circles, and I added the rest. Here's the layout of my jacket from their website:

I guess if someone is ever tells me they're offended by my jacket, I hope they'll give me a chance to share my thoughts about the subject before just walking away.

Hellcat I am not suprised at all. I collect military vehicles (US military) and even those they dont understand. I live in liberal vermont and I have had past run-ins with people that dont understand. All have been women to this point.

I had a Vietnam display set up with my deuce and a lady came up to me and asked me "why would I want to own a vehicle such as this?" I told her, "Look around.................do you see anything historic???? That model A ford could be because it was the 1st in its type of mass production but that 57 chevy or that 68 stingray is not historic. People died in vehicles just like these here protecting the freedoms that you enjoy today and to give you the right to ask your question to me and me to answer you why I am Proud to own such a vehicle like this!!!"

Few see it as history....................most see it in disgust.

The local RC club usually brings in a few planes whenever the HFM has an open house. A couple of years back one of the old boys had a very nice FW 190 Dora model in an accurate paint scheme and took a lot of flak from some politically correct female over the Nazi markings. He didn't say anything, just stopped displaying that model for quite awhile. If he had mentioned it when it happened, said female would probably have been asked to leave. Stoopid people

I had one! I purchased it at an airshow at Offet AFB...wore it out.

About thirty years ago, I was a member of the McKinstry Chapter of the IPMS and we had somebody yelling "Nazis" at us through the door of the hobby store where we met... the owner was a German immigrant, as I recall, but he was no Nazi.

A couple of years back right at the start of the Afghanistan mission, there was a group of Air Cadets waiting in the ferry terminal (in full uniform) for their ride to summer camp and two women came up and started berating them and their CO for being warmongers. I believe among the expletives was the line "how dare you teach those kids how to kill". People like this make me wonder about the future of the human race.

The people that don't get that it's a historical interest and just go to instant outrage are the type of people that cause wars. They don't have an informed opinion, they just like to have something to be mad about.

In the 70's I lived in Boca Raton, Fl. When the opportunity presented itself I would go up to DelRay Beach (the public beach was better there than at Boca). One morning while on the beach a ME 108 comes roaring down the beach at about 200 ft altitude and heading south (headed all the way to Miami then turn around and fly back to West Palm Beach Airport). At that time there were a lot of Jewish people in florida with numbered tatoos on their arms and the sight of that airplane and swastika was very disturbing to them. The hue and cry over these flights finally reached the pilot and he agreed to stop with the "public" demonstrations. I agreed that this was only right. I later learned that the pilot was the actor Cliff Robertson.
