Just a few old F-86 slides and snapshots I've been meaning to post for a long time...

Image

The very dirty old slide of the Minute Men F-86F, 51-2884 taken at Paine Field about 1977. I guess this was one of Ben Hall's several early F-86s. Later went to Buckley ANGB, CO.

Image

The french hollow Sabre I believe, was at Medical Lake, WA in 1978 and was 53-1304. It is now said to be at the March Field Museum.

more french holler...(the other early 50's relic-a 1950 Studebaker was mine. They wouldn't trade.)

The F-86L 53-0622 was at Gowen Field, in Boise summer 1972. A friend saw the clipped wing Sabre moved to an auto wrecking yard at the east end of the Gowen Field runway in 1973. Probably scrapped.

F-86D 51-6055 was mounted on pylons at the Albany, Oregon airport as late as 1967. Sometime later said moved to Hill AFB Museum, Utah.

Why does it default to the word "french" instead of the word f r o g that I typed???

Not anymore. They were all in an album I no longer have. I Maybe have some negatives buried somewhere.

I believe it was N2888G.

Belonged to Milt Smilanich. Was almost airworthy when I moved to Boise in 1971. Went steadily downhill after that. Last saw a hulk of it in the fire practice area on southeast side of field in about 1987-88.

Excellent! As a kid, I clearly remember seeing this F-86 every time we drove down I-5 as I knew that we were getting close to home (I live in Corvallis). They also had a red drone of some-sort mounted on the pole right next to it... both long gone now.

Apparently they are planning on adding some A-4 Skyhawks at the Albany airport now...

Here's a not so good snapshot of that other Albany machine.
