the scrap business is booming thanks to the sucko economy. authorities are making scrap dealers / junk yards / recyclers more accountable for what they buy, like pawn shops do. registering names & addresses of sellers, item descriptions etc.

Scrap was real high when the economy was booming, that was the problem. Now the scrap market has taken a dive like everything else. So it isn't as profitable to scrap anything now. So hopefully that stealing stuff to scrap will stop now.
I looked all over that website I don't see a thing about a turbine engine.
It still shows a photo of an allison for the engine.

Yup, scrap is down to $2.10/hundred pounds for "shredder steel"..copper and Alu are way down as well. For perspective, this summer shredder steel was its highest ever at 18.00/hundred pounds.
I hope this stuff is found quick.

I spoke to Mark today. The theft occured about the middle of October from the Redding area. He'd appreciate a call if anyone has any info.
Hope they catch the b@#*@$!

There is nothing worse than being stolen from. I recently got broken into and the bottom feeders stole the copper waterpipes from my house and the back fly screen door. I cant imagine how you feel after something irreplacable like that is taken.
Re surviving hydros. There are several in the US still doing display runs (mainly in Seattle). Some Merlin powered some Allison. The Twin Turbo hull still runs and believe it or not is becoming more competetive each season.
There are two Merlin powered Hydros here in Australia. One is still racing competetively and mine which had its first start in 20 years last August.
You can see it run on you tube. just type in Aggressor Thunderboat.
