A fighter plane from the Warhawk Museum in Nampa is featured in the new Tom Cruise movie "Valkyrie," which tells the story of the failed July 20, 1944, plot by members of the German Army to assassinate Adolph Hitler.
The plane, a Curtiss P-40 fighter plane is a British Royal Air Force plane in the film.
"The reason Tom Cruise wanted that airplane was because of its authenticity," said Sue Paul, executive director of the Warhawk Air Museum. "He’s a real stickler for authenticity. He was very excited to have that plane for that scene."
The plane was used during filming in the spring in Apple Valley, Calif., Paul said. She was on the set during one day of filming.
"It was just a kick," Paul said. "It was about 112 degrees out in the desert."
Paul said museum officials didn't realize the kind of publicity the plane would get in the movie's trailer and in a Newsweek article. The trailer features a scene where Cruise looks up to see the P-40 flying overhead.
