This Could be a case of Crack Head gone wild at a "find". I would commence my search for the stolen goodies at the recycling yards in the county. Take pictures of the kind of stuff that has been stolen.
If subject thief can be located, take that individual camping, help him up when he falls time after time over downed trees on the first day, remain at campsite until all bruises heal, then help him up after he slips a couple of times getting out of the truck.

Might put the word out around the Unlimited Hydroplane community. Believe they still use Merlins in some boats (Those that can't afford ex-Huey Cobra turbos).

Old SAR Pilot,
With the exception of a very very tiny handfull of restored thunderboats owned either by the Unlimited Hydroplane Racing Museum or a couple of very rich guys who own the others, most restored unlimiteds run ALLISONs because they are small block Chevy reliable, the boats are exhibition use only and rarely get over 115 or so. The only piston boat still running was the U-3 COOPERS EXPRESS using a dual turbo ALLISON but it went 'whoosh' a couple of years ago. The ABRA approved current engine is the -7 or-9 T -55 from early S#ithooks

Well, I guess I (and source) stand corrected.

Not much to go on. Where are the details of when these were taken, and where, etc.? Seems kind of strange that there is only that notice. That is a California area code.

Redding, CA area. What a bummer to get ripped off that way.

The U-3 is still trucking along, Allison-powered. The last unlimited thunderboat.

According to the (Redding, CA) EXPERIMENTAL AIRCRAFT ASSOCIATION CHAPTER 157 newsletter he is restoring a P-51. Anyone know which one?

Randy,
Nope- the U-3 if it can find a sponser for 2009 went T-55 last year but only made a couple of Midwest races and not the Western swing-I'd much rather have the air full of the sounds of big pistons on the lake than Hoovers plugged into 440V, but time do march on-
Now it's up to UL's and the G boats to give real racing noises

Where is the information that U-3 is not Allison now?

The western swing of the 2008 ABRA season ended on a down note for owner Ed Cooper and driver Jimmy King, losing 4 engines total. After Saturday's blown engine in the first heat of the day left Ed Cooper to withdraw from racing, he said, "That's it for this weekend.
We're really disappointed."
No mention of changing to turbine for the last race on Sep. 21st in San Diego.

I wonder if he noted any identifiable stamps on the parts. On lots of my merlin stuff they've got stamps from earlier military overhauls. Some of the heads I have include multiple stamps and it'd be pretty hard to sanitize the parts without harming them. If that info is known it should be spread throughout our world and others, and we could also put the word out to overhaul shops to be on the lookout. Man this is really bad. jb
