Bill, every good trooper's been in the brig once...I think some famous Marine commander said something to that effect. The internet's a crappy communication medium and as one with a historically big mouth and temper, I've had to learn the hard way to hold my fire early on here and have come to admire and respect the guys I sparred with early on. We all know well your political views and that you're passionate about them but WIX ain't the time or place to tack on political commentary in most cases. Maybe some guys here have a thin skin, maybe some of your musings provoke, maybe a little of both. I know you think leaving politics out is dull and a little poilitical sparring is interesting and entertaining, but many here disagree. For me, WIX is a little bit entertainment, a great resource/network, an escape and a place to learn from guys who've forgotten more than I'll never know about aviation history, restoration/mainenance, rivet counts, and current warbird news and happenings. I enjoy a spirited political discussion, but not here for the most part. But on that subject... I think it's folly to put much faith in any US political party or politician since IMHO the vast majority of them solve nothing, waste too much of our tax dollars, are corrupt, bought and paid for by big money special interests and don't give a rip about me, you, or anything but consolidating their own power. Back to our show...You've contributed a lot of great insights into warbirds, especially all things Spitfire and I hope your sentence is commuted or you get early parole otherwise where will I get Aspen snowfall PIREPs? Have a Merry Christmas Bill and I hope to see you 'round the WIX campus.

I share many of Bill's views in the political world even though I don't share them as much. If Bill is getting canned for these reasons you may as well add me to the list for thinking the same way. I know i've posted a couple threads that got out of control (Patty DUI) but they were not meant to stir up controversy. Just meant to inform people what's happening as not everyone checks the Oshkosh news site. I hope Bill is still with us entering the New Year.

Ztex recently pointed out to me that I tend to say what I am thinking without filtering it enough. That said, I must point out that many of the replies here are exactly the sort of insult that we need to refrain from. It is sort of ludicrous in a thread in which a member of WIX who feels he has been threatened and targeted by Mods that there are people posting exactly the sort of reply to his comments that are causing the real problems here at WIX in the first place.

Please, guys, I know you can do it. Show the same restraint here that you would show in any public place. No cussing, throwing rotten tomatoes, insults, or poorly veiled references to treasonous behavior. This isn't a difficult thing to grok, is it?

I'd liek to add that a simple smiley or lack of one can make a huge difference in what you are posting (another point Ztex reminded me of earlier)

Example
Ztex you suck!

means an entirely different thing this way:

Ztex, you suck! :butthead: :snakeman: :axe:

I would like to run for Moderator in the next moderator election. I would like Bill Greenwood to be my running mate, We pledge the following:

-Bring stability and long term security to “The WIX Hanger”
-Each year on my birthday, every WIX member gets a cupcake.
-I'm not a member of any organized political party, I'm a Democrat!
-I promise to put an end to the "end of year" awards for best threads, most posts etc because Jack Cook seems to have some sort of "inside angle" to winning every year ... Besides I have more photos of women then he does warbirds so I actually could give him a run for his money.
-Never vote for the best candidate, vote for the one who will do the least harm.
-Politicians and moderators are the same all over. They promise to build a bridge where there is no river. I'll promise to building the river first, then the bridge.
-Bill knows nothing and thinks he knows everything. That points clearly to a career as a moderator.
-This is the most important decision I've had to make since last year when I decided to either get a bikini wax or join WIX.
-My choice was either to be a piano-player in a whorehouse or a WIX moderator. And to tell the truth, there's hardly any difference.
-Moderators are wonderful people as long as they stay away from things they don't understand, such as being a moderator.
-The mistake a lot of moderators make is in forgetting they've been appointed and thinking they've been anointed.
-The moderators triumph because they are a united minority acting against a divided majority.
-An honest moderator is one who, when he is bought, will stay bought.
and lastly,
-You can fool some of the people all the time, and those are the ones you want to concentrate on. Bill and I will promise to continue this process in good faith ....

Bill stay here, WIX needs you .... It could be worse for you, I've just gone from "double probation" to "double secret probation" ..... darn it!!!! ... I keep posting ....

And Haskins did you just throw me under the bus? No one's threatened to ban me, (but me) at least I haven't heard anything yet (yet!!! )....

Now can we just start up a pick-up Hockey game, Bill and I against the rest of you wusses ... wait!! that wouldn't be even, you guys would need more wusses!!! ....

hehe

Happy Holidays to all of you fine gentlemen, and ladies

Mark

As a new person to this forum I can say that as a whole this is by far the least aggressive forum I have ever seen. My own company forum has all out brawls with people that could be flying together tomorrow so I certainly see the reason for moderation but not over moderation. I think that this forum is great for its contained debates with knowledgeable people and hopefully it will continue to be a host to friendly debates. I also don't think it can afford to loose the input of a person like Bill.

Thanks guys for the words of support. You are either a bunch of open minded, nice guys or else you have been naughty this year and are just trying to make up for it at the last minute in hopes that Santa has a forgiving nature.
As for the guys on the other side, I thought they would be out in force, but maybe they like to do their work behind the scenes.
Ztex, Zane was not the moderator I meant. I actually have hopes for Zane, a few months in the reeducation camp after Jan 20 may straighten him out.
I did not write that Randy was a "baby killer". I' ll bet $100 no one can find that quote from me. That whole story is a long one, not for here at this time.
Hellcat, I enjoyed your humor here.
T33 has got one of my favorite post which starts out about not having politics and finishes with a lot of politics,in full afterburner. He's ok for a jet guy.
Thanks to all.

Bill and I are diametrically opposed politically and although he's made some politically motivated remarks (that torque my jaws) in his posts, I've never read anything that he's authored that I would consider "banning" material.

Mudge the peacemaker :hide:

(NO...neither a B-36 nor a Colt.)

B29 I tried to sign you and Mudge up . They said they could not do miracles so you were out and Mudge was past the age where they consider him re- trainable. Merry Christmas you guys.

I'd have to second Mudge's comments.

Having said that, we ALL seem to get along much better when we ALL stick to warbirds (after all that is the purpose of this forum) and refrain from discussing politics, religion, global warming, gun control, generational conflicts, the recent elections and all those other social issues. I know that I've let myself get drug into some of those types of dicussions so I'm as guilty as the next guy. But those subjects are not why I'm here so I'll try to stay out of that stuff from here on out. It's not like we don't have other forums where we can get into those subjects and do all the name-calling we want, if we so choose. Seems we've got enough to fight over concerning a/c (flying vs. non-flying, the NAFM and etc.) without going into all that other stuff...

So Bill, I hope you stick around. And I hope you can get that Spit back into the air soon.!
