I would like to see that graveyard of Libs near Peleliu (Angaur) brought out of the woods and returned. These four Js deserve to come home.

How about all the crates of new aircraft dumped off Australia.

There was a thread about that here on WIX some years back. I don't have the link, you can probably search for it. The basic jist was that at least one recovery was accomplished, but they were found to be in EXTREMELY poor condition. On one of the aircraft they found (Corsair?), the aluminum was in such bad shape, it was as pliable as wet, soggy cardboard. I think most people have given up on the idea of recovering from that location, as the aircraft are most likely all junk now, probably not even good for patterns.

I was thinking of a technique that is used for artifacts that were immeresed in salt water. Think that they did this with the CSS Hunley. After recovery they kept it wet, and then upon arriving at the preservation facility, it was placed in a salt water tank. The salt water was equal portions to the ambient NaClH2O, then the salt content was gradualy lowered to where it was pure water. Wondering if this might work for these australian a/c as well.

Don't think so. Remember there's a lot less structure of an aircraft than a ship - a ship loses a few mil of structure, it's pretty solid, an aircraft crumbles. We are also not talking substituting-out salts, but trying to reverse a chemical change.

Dumped aircraft in Australia -

No amount of chemical treatment can put back what salt corrosion has already taken away.....

This issue has already been well covered on the FP forum

There have been a few parts recovered in excellent condition, but the hopes of complete airframes in recoverable condition has yet to be delivered.

Its simply a case of being @ 50 years too late for most salt water recoveries, unless its an extinct type that will be used for purely metal patterns rather than restoration itself, there are still exceptions to the rule, the P40L recovered from just beyond the beach line in Italy against the prevailing theories of depth/oxygen levels appears quite integral at this point in time for a fairly recent recovery.

I would agree, the priority should be for Japanese wrecks representing extinct types, or restorable airframes/sections to increase the static display/preserved examples, particularly of Betty/Helen/Sally bombers.

yammy's betty is the cash cow of that island group. they should at least make a protected diorama from the elements, but a little to remote to get security guards out their to chase off souvinir hunters.

My entries would be the Mavis sunk just off of Gavutu and easily visible in the shallow water. The other would be a Betty...there is a nose section and a fuselage on Guadalcanal.
