help! mystery plane identification

Anyone know what plane this is?

Looks like it has an X or H-24 engine.

all i can identify is that it's fugly & wouldn't want to bail out of it.

I can't remember what it is, but it was in a mystery plane quiz in Flight Journal a few years back. It was either Russian or French, but I don't remember exactly which type of aircraft is was.

Looking at the canopy my guess would be Russian. Yak?

With the long prop shaft it appears to have had a counter-rotating prop.

Either the engine is rotated 90 degrees to the right or it has four banks of cylinders?
