Hi all!

Image

I;m currently working on a 1:72 model of this bird (albeit intact, not the wreck as seen above!), a machine I've followed since my childhood. She was resident for a while here in New Zealand, with Sir Tim Wallis' Alpine Fighter Collection. He apparently was to restore it to fly, but he told me in a letter soon after his 1996 accident that it had been sold to the DTM in Germany. As a nine-year-old obsessed with warbirds, and a particular fondness for the Stuka, I was rather disappointed.

Fast forward a few years and she surfaced in the UK, and was even registered to new owner Glenn Lacey (as G-STUK). This was to be an airworthy restoration, and in the Stuka survivors piece in Classic Wings it was stated he even had a pair of Jumos in good condition.

What has happened to this possible future flier in recent times? I know some of Glenn's ex-"RLM Aviation" aircraft are resident at Old Warden in the UK, but I've read nothing about the Stuka.

Just out of curiosity I'd love to know where she is now, and if the current owner/s intend to embark on the restoration?

Check Mikael's website at www.preservedaxisaircraft.com The info you want is most likely there.

This one is a replica, not an original.

Those airplanes aren't still there are they? I go through FRA all the time and I've never seen them. Those pics are 1980's at least?

Zac

I have a sneaking suspicion the 87 is still in store with DTM, and never left there.

Here are the facts on the Air Klassic Colection- better than I had thought!

"The Air Classic collection was closed in the early nineties, when the airport needed the space for another use. All aircraft were sold to different museums in Germany. Some also belonged to the airport company:
Nothing was scrapped, but some of the mockups did not survive the weather influence over the years.

Antonov AN-2 on show at Luftfahrtmuseum Merseburg
Bücker Bü 131 (CASA 1.131) may be still on store at Frankfurt Airport
Bücker Bü 181 private near Cologne, for sale
Dornier Do 27 on show at Luftfahrtmuseum Merseburg
Douglas DC 3 restored and on show at Munich airport
Fieseler Fi 156 (MS.500) reskinned and on show at Auto + Technik Museum Sinsheim
Focke Wulf Fw 190 A mockup to Luftfahrtmuseum Schwenningen, destroyed there due to weather
Fokker Dr I replica on loan at August-Euler-Museum Griesheim
Fokker D VI replica on show at Luftfahrtmuseum Merseburg
Fokker D VII replica on show at Luftfahrtmuseum Merseburg
Heinkel He 111 (CASA 2.111) on show at Flugausstellung Hermeskeil
Junkers Ju 52 (CASA 352) restored and on show at Munich airport
Junkers Ju 87 B mockup same as Fw 190
Klemm Kl 35 restored and on show at Deutsches Technikmuseum Berlin
Lockheed Super Constellation restored and on show at Munich airport
Messerschmitt Bf 108 (Nord 1002) on show at Stuttgart airport
Messerschmitt Bf 109 E mockup same as Fw 190
Messerschmitt Me 163 B mockup on show at Luftfahrtmuseum Merseburg
Messerschmitt Me 208 (Nord 1101) on loan at August-Euler-Museum Griesheim
Messerschmitt Me 262 A mockup same as Fw 190"

hello,
I can only confirm whats David is telling ,as a matter that stuka was never in Lacy's place
he used a picture from it and when all his stuff was sold by auction not even that stuka was there. my source was a person working at the auction.
the stuka is still in the storage facility of DTM.
