jerry...... congrats!!! you are moving up to winning the car & luggage status!!! but this being a reccession the luggage is grocery bags.... your choice paper or plastic??? the car a 1973 olive green amc matador!!! for the grand prize........ what happened to gilford in 1950's hollywood??

I think he was one of many in Hollywood who was blacklisted by the House Un-American Activities Committee. Maybe when he was a comedian he told too many "communistic" jokes!

IIRC, Jack Gilford was labeled a "premature anti-fascist" (great twisting of words, eh?) because he, and many others, supported the Russian communist side of the Spanish Civil War vs the Nazi Socialist side.
Never mind that Russian Communists were our allies a few years later in WWII (an enemy of my enemy is my friend kinda thing) - don't be out too far in front of "real patriotism" was the HUAC & McCarthy era mantra.
...OK...back to the movie...
