Waco QCF-2 prototype NX11241

Mon Dec 01, 2008 3:14 am

Hi,
Does anyone have high resolution outside photographs of Woods Brothers Waco restored prototype? I would like to make enlargement copies to hang in my shop. I already asked Scott Woods, but he only has the non high resolution ones.
Regards
Hans

Taken about two months ago, Mike S. might have some nice pictures from the same event.

Ahh... nice shot Roger. I really did a double take when I saw it up in OR last week. Was in Texas for so many years... knew it was last in CA... then HEY!!! That is THE F-2!

Thanks Dan, I had posted this elsewhere here in the Vintage Category, but there've been so many Waco postings I couldn't find it again. The Woods have three of these lovely biplanes, and keep them at Petaluma Airport, CA.

Not the prototype, but here's another 1931 Waco QCF-2 flown by Travis Foss and owned by Alain Di Cadenet of Santa Inez. Travis brought the plane to the Watsonville Air Show two weeks ago, and then over to Frazier Lake after the show, for some blue sky flying.

Hi Roger,
Thanks for the nice pics!
Hi Dan,
Did you have found some time to search for the file you had in mind. I am still looking for some good static photos in nice natural surrounding.

I sure miss seeing that airplane around. I know Curly hated to see it go but it was for the best.
I did get to sit in the cockpit one day. What machine!

I only have a couple of photos of it. Should have taken more...oh well.

Hans,

The most recent shot I have is from November.

Cant seem to find the shots I have of it when it lived in Texas. Sorry.

Hi Dan,

Thank you for the nice picture! When you are writing that this picture was taken last November, I assume that this aeroplane has been restored lately, because when I first saw it at Oshkosh 05 it was in bad shape, especially the wing finish was cracked. It would be very nice to find some nice outdoor static pictures of the particular QCF!

It has not been restored since 1978. The Woods Bros. gave it another coat of paint on the wings and polished it.
