Cool pictures, Rich! I can hardly wait to see her fly!

Quick question regarding shipping an aircraft. Is it anything like having your furniture shipped when you move? In other words, no matter how careful you are, there is always going to be some kind of small nick, cut or blow to your furniture. Is it the same when shipping an aircraft? Is small or minor damage always a foregone conclusion, or is it possible to ship an aircraft overseas with absolutely ZERO damage.

How did she fare? Any damage to the Spit at all?

Thanks for the info, when do you expect her to fly? :D

She came across with almost no issues at all. One gear leg had become unlatched and was out a bit but it created no issues. Otherwise all went well. I have heard horror stories of containers falling off the ship and floating in the North Atlantic. That would have been a really bad day.

In the average year, 10,000 cargo containers are lost at sea. Ya spin that wheel and ye take yer chances!! And buy insurance!!! :shock:

Insurance requires the A/C be shipped below decks. Other than crane operators I think the most risk is on the highways and byways. Then again there is the folks unloading.

Tell me about it. There's a nice Mi-24D Hind sitting on the ramp at LNC that was (from what I'm told) the best of the trio bought by the Cold War Air Museum and it'll never fly again because the words - "Low Boy Only" didn't compute with the trucking company hired to move the aircraft up from Houston. It proved that solid titanium will do a number on a concrete bridge though. Thankfully the other two made it fine and the second best turned out to be in better shape than was originally thought.

I thought they were a set of back scratchers!
Although the small ones wouldn't reach very far.
What can the 11 BA be used on? If my kids had space that small between their teeth I wouldn't have to pay for braces!

Jim, congrats on your Spit arrival. Hope it goes together real fast and is in the air soon. I have been watching the Flying Machines "A Spitfire Story" and maybe you will have a DVD out on your Spit someday. Rich, are you all going to put in some on board cameras? Thanks for keep us in the loop with photos, please keep them coming....

Got some more work done on the Spit this weekend.
This pic is from today. Not really any different from yesterday or Friday.

Now only 1 more bolt to install and tighten to finish tailplane attachment so I'll be back in this same position on Monday.
I got the seat out today and there is a nice set-up for easy removal and install. Only thing is it weighs a ton. The flat green panels below and behind are steel plates for armor protection. Seat is some form of phenolic/wood material, maybe similar to a Mosquito?
