That is not a B-18A, it is a B-18. The B-18A has a different nose, sometimes referred to as a "Shark Nose" .

Something was going on when I posted those. I copied the B-18 and the darn Bell copied over. Oh well...cannot always be perfect!!!! :roll:

Notice the lack of waist blisters and feathered no4 on the B-17.Is she a B or C model?

It has B-17B written on the photo file. All these were retrieved from a dumpster at Wright Field and I bought them about 25 years ago. These were actual folders with 8x10 photos glued to the front of airplanes at Wright Field. They are all stamped "OFFICIAL PHOTOGRAPH, U. S. A. F. EXP. ENGR. DIV., PHOTO PROD. UNIT WRIGHT FIELD, DAYTON, OHIO" and have a negative number on them and a code, all hand-written. The real early stuff ahve the following: "AERIAL PHOTOGRAPH U. S. ARMY AIR SERVICE ENGINEERING DIVISION DAYTON, OHIO" with a negative number hand-written. I purchased these from an estate, and also got a huge stack of negatives as well. The story was that the guy worked on the base and these were all thrown out and he went dumpster-diving and brought them all home. That was probably 15-20 years before I got them!

Whoa - take another look at the second photo; that big nose turret and extended glazing under the nose are definitely not B-18 or B-18A, but bear a strong resemblance to the arrangement on the Douglas B-19. Was this a test mule for the setup?

B-17B. Note the dorsal blister. Was proably in the process of having the waist positions upgraded to "C" standard. Interesting in that there does not appear to be commander's dome behind the cockpit.

The B-17 pilot had to feather a prop to get slow enough to fly with the B-18. Even with the engines at idle it was still faster.
