He's saying that the Coast Guard flies sloppy formations!

I don't know why he thinks that. Perhaps, he is implying that the Coast Guard really doesn't fly formation much, so they won't be very tight?

Good catch Vlado :!:
I was wondering if anyone would catch that.

Just a playful dig Mark. My uncle Andy served from 39-45 with most
of it in the Treasury Cutter Duane on N. Atlantic convoy patrol 8)

I have heard that phrase several times myself. I don't think it is a slam on the Coast Guard. It simply means keep it tight, we aren't flying a search pattern.
I think that the Coast Guard aircrews are some of the bravest crews we have. I cringe when I see the weather conditions they often fly in. I know that I wouldn't want to fly in those conditions.

Saw the USCGC Duane a number of times, 327 class, like a destroyer escort size ship...she was still in service when I was in....think I might even have a pic of her...

My Uncle Andy spend 3 years on the Duane. After 2 years of convoy escort she was converted has a command ship and utilized has such during the invasion of southern France. He was a GM and I remember him telling me about shooting 20mm at surfaced U-boat U-77 which they sank. They took aboard a few survivors and got credit for a assisted with the Spencer with the escort CO onboard receiving credit for the kill. The Duane is now a artificial reef in the FL keys one of the most most popular.

Least they sank the Duane where you can dive on it....they sank my ship, the Evergreen, in about 15,000 feet of water in the Puerto Rican trench....she was holed by missiles from s-3 Vikings with no warheads on them first, fixed up again, towed back out, and then holed again by missiles WITH warheads on them this time.....however, she still did'nt want to go down and took her time sinking....
