Check this thread which includes bits about the F-84F that sat for years outside Gateway Tech in Kenosha, WI.

Very sad.

Makes me wonder if there still isn't stuff salvagable from that. Landing gear, stick, even the ejection seat didn't looks trashed even though it was pretty well messed up overall. etc. Wonder if it's sitting in some salvage yard atm, or if it's been melted down. Despite how bad that looked, it could be a parts goldmine for non-flight resporations like mine.

Is yours the one the City of Mesa sold awhile back?

Yes, mine came form the city of Mesa. It was only a couple of days away from being chopped up and thrown into a dumpster. As it was, it had been pushed over and the skin poked in several places. Nothing that can't be fixed. I was able to get it to City Purchasing's attention were they agreed it had a monetary and historical value so they advertised it for sale and sold it by sealed bid.

Ya, mine has skin issues too. They loaded it with a forklift off the site it was originally recovered from and put the forks through it to load it. It didn't hit anything except skin though and the cockpit was untouched by it. The largest problem I have is the elements have gotten to the area around the nose gear compartment. It's corroaded around there and is going to need some replacement skin.

jbloomer2: How complete is the back end of your fuselage. I found this looking though the Life google photo archives:

Is yours complete to that station? If so I'd be interested in working with you to get some posterboard templates of that rear station so I could extend my section back to that point. I have the capability of CNC machining the station and reverse engineering it. If I got my fuselage to that station it would be a lot easier to restore it to a full display again.

Mine looks to be cut just before that station:

BHawthorne

My fuselage is very complete to that station. It still has the four large bolts used to attach the rear fuselage. And the engine mounts are still there. Also, having been in the Arizona environment for the last 40 years I cannot see any corrosion, even though that does not always mean anything.

Check with South Seattle Community Colleges Aviation Dept. in Seattle WA. They had an F-84F that was complete less a toasted engine that was used for systems and hydraulics instruction and they 've had it for about 45 years, don't know if it's still there but ja nebba gnow does ya-
