The first to 25

Fri Nov 14, 2008 12:02 pm

Does anyone know what B-17 was the first to fly all 25 missions with the same crew?

I was explaining to someone the trues story of the Belle and hell's Angels and a 8 year old kid stumped me with that question.

Actually probably the first 10 to make 25 mission were all in the SWP.
Mustang, Black Jack, Susy-Q, ect. I 've got shot of a 301st BG b-17F with 120 mission markers on it taken in mid 43

In J.K. Havener's book on the B-26, he mentions a B-26 that logged 336 missions. It was likely with the 17th BG. Apparently, the negative for the only image he was aware of was destroyed. Anyone else heard of this plane or know more about it?

'H*ll's Kitchen' the caption says South Pacific but there are 7 swastikas on the nose.
There was a 301st B-17F with the same name but I'm not sure on this one.
The background doesn;t help either. I'll post a photo tomorrow.

North Africa ,there shoes are dusty and front worn down from walking through sand, stones .
No trees or other plant life too any where .
Also 301 BG was in the 12th & latter 15th Airforce.
I could be wrong but my best guess.

Wherever it is, it must not be too hot. None of them have "pits". Of course they could have gotten dressed in their air conditioned quarters...posed for the picture...and immediately returned to the air conditioned lounge for a cool one. :drink3:
