Today a gentleman stopped by the hangar and asked to see the warbirds parked there [ my PT 23 and my friends BT13] and during our conversation he mentioned that his father flew B17's in WW 2 and he was shot down over Germany and was a POW.
I expressed how proud I am of his father and those B17 pilots and crew who went on what we would call today, suicide missions.
I have no idea of his relationship with his father, but he seemed totally surprised when I spoke of their exploits over Germany and encountering the deadly flack and German fighters.
Speaking to him and the formation flyby with the PT23 and the BT13 for a VFW program made my Veterans Day.
I am a vet from peacetime and I am humbled by those who served in wars.
