I have a buddy who is building a giant scale (1:5.5) radio control P-38 with a detailed cockpit and gun bays. He is looking for photos and drawings of the gun bays so he can super detail them for contests. If you have period photos, drawings or restoration (Glacier Girl, Porky II, etc.) shots, I'd greatly appreciate it if you posted them.

Many thanks!
Ed

Is the spelling mistake authentic for the 'noise' ballast?

No, it's intentional. You know, "noise ballast"! If you don't carry guns, you just make machine gun noises to scare the enemy into submission. :D

This is regular way to keep airplane statically balanced. In this way constructor have to calculate for excample what is the position of the armament as well changing of the weight due to the armament spent in air. So if the ammunition storage is to much away from the dynamics and static center of the airplane, this could be very dangerous and even could not be compensate with the trim tabs. In this way entire design of the airplanes with the central armament are more complex then the more standrd in the wings [they almost lay on the center of airplane and no penalty due to the weight change].

Images are beautiful and good luck with the model build project.

Cheers :P :P

Dear Mgawa,
We know. However the discussion (probably not clear to a non-native English speaker) is regarding the sign that says 'noise' not 'nose'. ;)

English is often also a problem for native English-speaking sign-writers, whether in the 1940s or 21st century.
Cheers,

Ooooppss- sorry to all  And thank you James for taking time to correct me.

Step back in time I have chance to close look at one preserved P-38 Lighting in the museum in Belgrade. It is of fascinating construction and from my point of view best I have seen. very precise and strong.

Cheers :P
