So what I'm interested in is the story about the p61 picture at the museum
here... so how did you get that... ???

From my recollection, the view here would have to be taken from either a
ladder or raised lift, or from Bocks car, the B29?

Either way, thanks for posting this.. the darkness of that area along with
a black airplane makes it really hard to get a decent photo of it.

So how'd you get it? :-)

Or by mounting my camera on an extended monopod, setting the timer, and holding it over my head. Puts the camera about 15 feet off the floor, and above all the signs, barricades, and people. 8)

Unfortunately, the only way to get a decent photo of the P-61 is with a time exposure, which is impossible with this technique.

there is nothing worse than a poor CAGED BIRD.....

...15 years ago one of them still existed---as a gate guardian in Calif. somewhere....another murdered airplane on a pole.

I ahve no problem with static aircraft but only if they are too junked to fly

the air force shouldn't take more than 45 minutes, after all the only good plane is the P-61 and none of them will ever fly anyway

another perfectly restored dead airplane!

they needed it so they could kill it and get it out of the air

If it is not going to be a flyer...they might as well just make it out of fiberglass....... (Refering to Flak bait)

Let someone buy it and fly it, the museum can murder other planes



Wow!! Jusding by your own words from other threads above, you are right. You really don't attack anyone and always are respectful of what others work hard on.
The problem is that you will make some smart reply to some one posting pics of a static airplane, or commenting on it, then when someone gets pissed and says something to you, you were attacked and you are just answering back. You have an opinion. It is just that OPINION. Others have them. I have no Agenda. I just enjoy airplanes, static and flyable. But time and time again you trash talk stuff people are working very hard on. I have tried to make peace with you, more than you have ever tried with me. So now I could care less. I am not out to trash talk you, but you don't mind doing it to others. If I sat here and bashed Reno and the L-39 over and over and over again, it would wear on you as well.

It'd be great to go see the CAF Marauder but it's gone. That's not a judgement on the crew or its mechanics - it's just one example of the simple fact that aviation can be a hazardous endeavor. P-51, Cessna 152, Marauder, B-777, no matter the model, you know the drill.

This year was my first time seeing Glacier Girl fly (Reno). I'm thrilled she flies but was disappointed that her owner would risk her on a trans-Atlantic flight.

I can't wait to see the MAAM P-61 fly, but I'd be disappointed in any effort to fly either the NMUSAF or NASM's Widows. I want my great-grand-kids to see those birds in person, not risk the chance that all they'll have is to hear stories of how they used to fly and were lost. If the MAAM bird is still doing its thing, then they can go see it. If not, life goes on.

And since I don't see Congress "bailing out" our nation's museums so that they'll have the funds to fly their collections, I'm guessing that this discussion is a moot point anyway.

So no missions for the MAAM bird. Pity. At least it made it to theater, which is more than alot of the surviving warbirds today.

Since the NASM P-61 was delivered to the AAF so late in the war, it can be assumed it never saw any operational service, and never left the states since it was assigned to Alaska by Oct '45.

As for Bejiing... Can we safely assume it was part of the 426th NFS? The serial number is known. Do no records exist with bu no's or is access to the records the problem?

In other words... name any B-17 bu number on here and practically instantly someone knows the name of the aircraft and operational history. Why so difficult for the P-61s? This could be the only combat vet of the 4, and it's killing me not knowing! :shock: :roll: :lol:

I dont think it is Taboo at all. The situation just boiled down to a simple misunderstanding. The picture that caused all the fuss was simply an extra piece of airframe that was being used for practice, etc... The picture was posted by accident, and some here (me included) did a bit too much speculating. My mistake.

I'll be going to the MAAM later this month (To celebrate my birthday :D )and I'll snap some pics.
