Warbird Information Exchange

I flew up to Everett, last week ( Oct. 18 ) for the last FHC fly day of the season. They pulled out both the BF-109 and the I-16, a sight I definitely couldn't miss. Paul Allan himself even showed up (only the second time he's been there I was told). The pilots for the event were Bud Granley (Bf-109) and Carter Teeters (I-16).

I shot a few photos, but unfortunately it was with a camera I don't use much anymore. Sorry for the poor quality.









As the head of security was letting us out so we could get back to the plane he informed us to be ready for next season. Another building and 17 more aircraft. Anyone know anything more about that?

WOW.....17 more aircraft.....does anyone know what they might be???

Looks like I may be making a few runs up to Everett next year.....it's only about 230-240 mi. from my place.

I know the B-25 is nearing completion, maybe the Me-262? and the two seat Zero? Those three are still a far cry from the number of 17.

I remember seeing a list (a year or two ago) of aircraft in the collection on the FHC site, that were awaiting restoration. It was extensive to say the least. Maybe some of the jets are ready. Or maybe that number includes aircraft that are not yet airworthy but still displayable.

I know someone here knows something.

I would love to see that list again.

I thought I heard somewhere that FHC has a Crusader that is close to flying. . .

they have the ex Thunderbird Aviation F-8s, and one was flyable, the other needed the cockpit work completed and a engine installed.

I have a small truck load of F-8 ground support gear from Thunderbird I have been trying to sell to the FHC, but they don;t seem interested.

When I was there one of the volunteers told me that the two-seat Zero would not be a regular flyer. It would be quite amazing to experience a flight in it though!

Well, unless ATS (the follow on to BADWRENCH er. GOODRICH) is closing one of it's fairly new hangers, thats a really good question. I do know that they were talkig awhile ago about bringing up the 'worm'. The 'worm' is the vinyl meandering tent the SEAHACKS (wait a minute, they have won 2 whole games so far) used to use in front of QWEST FIELD as a fan shelter everything else @ KPAE is 'TEE' hangers or occupied by other businesses except John Sessions 'hangermahal' under construction across the field from FHC, but J.S. is building a pretty cool pile of old iron too!

One of the F8's was donated to Seattle Community College as a training aid, it flew into KBFI and the logs were surrendered, when the instructors went to assist the Navy people who came to disable the seat and take the avionics, after the Navy folks left, it was discovered that the 20MM cannons still had live rounds in them! Back comes the Navy to recover their errant projectiles. The aircraft was traded or sold to FHC through some deal with the Seattle School Board in exchange for money or facilities. I get this information from one of my fellow instructors here @ EDCC/ERC who was the head instructor @ SoSeCoCol for 26 years until he retired a couple of years ago.
The ex- Maloney/Hughes Me262 is still in Merrie Olde and still on the rivet of the year program, apparently the folks restoring it were told by Allens people "call us when you're done" did someone leave the barn door wide open??? Besides, when it is finished the plan is to fly it exactly once then utilize (perhaps)one of the project 262 replicas as the original falls in the same category as the DORA and the Ki-43, too rare to risk.
Allen did wind up with the defunct 'AIR STATION ARLINGTON' Canadian B-25 sprayers after the ASA ran out of money and the airport ran out of patience over removal of 60 year old asbestos shingles on their building. so, unless it's been traded or sold, it was airworthy when delivered a few years ago to Arlington, and could be made flyable I suppose. FHC also should have wound up with a converted A-26 executive airframe that was part of the ASA collection.

the F-8s that the FHC collection have did not come from the navy, they were not armed.The flyable F-8 did have live bomb racks as they did R&D work on contract with the navy and other DoD contractors. They came from Phoenix, and were part of Thunderbird Aviation, and were built up out of scrap parts. At one time they had 6 or 8 other fuselages, but no wings that were not cut.

I worked on the F-8s when they were here in Phoenix.

Lets hope there newly aquired P-38 turns out to be one impressive Night Fighter! Or at least im hoping.

That was the best show as of yet! Bud and Carter did a great job of flying those beasts! I have the feeling that each flight will get better! I've got pics also.

The F-8 WAS a flyer, last flown in 2000 or 2001. On one of it's last flights before being sold, it had a canopy explode, the pilot flew it back to Gateway Airport as a F-8 Convertiable.

IIRC they had an F-105 or two as well. One of the aircraft I definitely remember from the list was a Harrier.

Does Mr. Allen Own one of the Tonys under restoration down under?
