Looks like care has been taken to protect this bird from the weather for a period of time.
Could this be a Pensecola museum bird in storage?

Amazing photo!! That's F4U-5N, BuNo.122189, now at the Flying Leatherneck Aviation Museum at MCAS Miramar in California.

She actually did kick butt, specifically North Korean butt while serving with VC-3 squadron aboard the USS Essex ( June 1, 1952 - February 9, 1953).

Was there a date associated with this photo?

That's the plane while at NAS Whiting Field (c1975) after the Navy traded it to the USMC Museum in exchange for an FG-1D. The Marine Corps engineers tore the plane down, refurbished it, and actually flew it out of there a year or so later to MCAS Cherry Point in North Carolina.

Given the fact that there are numerous T-28's on the ramp it is no doubt a stateside photo...most likely at a Florida or Texas training field. As the T-28's are sporting a red and white paint scheme (introduced in the late '50s) I would estimate the photo to have been taken no earlier than about 1959.

The photo gone by sounds like the F4U-5 at Whiting I posted a long time back and send to Rob (?) for his book. It was at Whiting North when my step-dad was flying T-28s there.
