Curtiss C-46 Exhaust Needed

Tue Sep 02, 2008 10:14 pm

Hello Everyone,

I'm looking for any new peices of exhaust for the C-46. We have two hard working C-46's that fly almost every day. I will pay top $ or trade for other aircraft parts. We have a large inventory of DC-3, DC-4, and PBY spares.

Try the CAF in Midland TX. They have been trying to sell their C46 for awhile now, so maybe they have spare parts there too they might part with. Great starting point atleast.

You could also try Everts Air Fuels in Fairbanks, Alaska. They have four operational C-46's and six in mothballs.

Cheers,
Richard

PS. Need any C-46 fuel gauges mint in the box? I have a few.

by chance, do your c-46 aircraft have origins to ortner aviation?? they operated a number of c-46's out of wakeman ohio from the 50's to 1973. i i wrote an article on their exploits in air classics magazine a few years back. they had the largest non scheduled air freight service east of the mississippi river up to that time.

I have some exhaust stuff in a parts trailer, but don't know what you need (or exactly what we have). Just zap me an e-mail and I'll be happy to work with you on this.

Hello Gary,

I sent you an email about a month ago but you have not sent a reply. We will take anything (collector ring segments, sleeves, S-pipes, and clamps). As soon as you can find out how much you have and the condition of it can you please send me photos if possible. If you need part numbers I can send you them. Hope to here from you soon.

Thanks Curtis.

Don't have any C-46 parts, but would love to know what kind of C-54 (Dc-4) parts you might have...

Sorry Curtis, but I had two different folks email me, a couple of times, about that exhaust. I thought one of those folks was you. I replied to every email I received. However, the answer to all of those emails was the same....I was unable to sell the surplus parts we had, as they were included in a pending sale of The Tinker Belle.

I apologize if that message didn't get to you sooner.

Hey Curtis,

Couldn't Acorn build new ones from a worn out pattern?

Hello Gary,

Thanks for getting back to me. I hope Tinker Bell goes to a good home. If you know of anybody else that could help me or any other leads that I could work with that would be much helpfull. It would be nice to see them keep flying as they are great workhorses.

Thanks Curtis.

Hello Dan,

How are you? Yes we tried Acorn Welding but they said it was pretty hard making new peices from nothing. They have fixed some peices for us but it doesn't last to long. The metal is just to old and cracks or blows out. How is the Herc flying going. The Electra's are pretty still right now.

Right now, High tension leads for the SF14RN-8 Magnetos. Preferably the ones with the radio interference shielding.

But, Winter maintenance is fast approaching, I'm sure there will be a few parts that need to be located.

That's why I want to know what stuff you have. Airframe parts? Miscellaneous parts (knobs, switches..etc.) QEC Parts, or Power Plant (R-2000 parts)
