Sure Dan. If your doing a Ryan web page I have shots of at least 50 different Ryans that have flown since 1960.

I couldn't stand it any longer so had to due some Ryan research. Ryan NC8146 s/n 457 is in fact a true Ryan STM that was originally purchased by the Neatherlans East Undies Navy as part of a batch of 11 s/n 447-458. How it got registered as an ST-A is beyond me although we see alot of Wacos registered as the wrong model. Usually it is due to the owner not writing down the correct or complete model title. Surely it cannot be the FAA's fault......right!

The reality is that there are quite a few of the ex-Dutch, ex-Australian STMs registered as ST-As.
The reason is simple, the ST-A has a type certificate, wheras the STM doesn't so has to be registered under the Experimental category.
Therefore, many of the STMs have conveniently 'acquired' ST-A identities somewhere along the way!
And while we're on the subject of Ryans, aren't they just one of the prettiest little Art Deco masterpieces ever designed!
(This one's a genuine ST-A, btw)
