A email from yesterday.................
I am Mikaela100 on ebay, my daughters name. We have moved recently so life has been hectic. I am not a lurker by choice on WIX. I have signed up several times but have never been approved by the administrator. Maybe it is because I am from Canada??? Anyway in a recent post you mentioned your first T-6 ride with an RCAF instructor from Boundary Bay. That had to be Tony Swain in his T-6 Bessy? Tony was a flight instructor at CFB Penhold with my grandfather Jack "Blackjack" Lafay. My other grandfather was a Spitfire pilot in the RAF, Billie Hirst. He very rarely spoke about this time but over the years we all pieced together the following; He flew Spits in England, born 1921, then India. He was sent to Canada as a flight instructor were there was an accident. He was in a coma for several months and the student pilot died. He never flew again. He died this past New Years eve. I want desperately to learn about his life. I have completed an application to the RAF for a request for service details and am waiting patiently. Where else should I look?
As far as the WIX thing I do not know why they do not want me. I am a good man and I am a corporate manager for Caterpillar. Most importantly I am obssesed with Warbirds.
Your pictures are amazing!
Mike Maki

With the nearly 50+ membership requests that come in each day (about 49 of which are spam), it's hard to determine who is legitimate and who is not. When signing up, please place "warbirds" in the interest area and make it clear that your interest is to belong here. If the blanks are indeed left blank, the admin won't be able to tell if you're spam or legit.

Sign this guy up.

I'd love to chat with him. I too love warbirds! He also mentions an acquantance of mine, Tony Swain. He also works for the same company my Dad does.

He couldn't be all that bad.

Cheers,

David

Tony Swain gave me my first T-6 ride at Langley around 1977. If I recall his HVD IV had a white lightning bolt on the side?

Yeah, that was Tony. As much as he loved to give rides to people in his Harvard "Bessy," I was never in the right place at the right time when it came down to it.

Tony sold the plane a few years back and now Bessy is in the care of the Canadian Harvard Aircraft Association in Ontario. It's a very good home, but it's still sad to see her leave. She was an icon of the local warbird and recreational flying community here here in Vancouver.

Cheers,

David

But Jack...
What if we start getting letters that go something like...

Dear Kind Sir... You do not know me and are probably surprised by this offer of a partnership that must remain in confidentiality that I know a person of your trustworthy nature will keep.
Sadly, A Mr. McGanahan Skjellyfetti Cook recently met an untimely demise while operating a Caterpiller in Canada leaving my Financial institution with FIFTY MILLION DOLLARS US and no heirs.

Sadly this money will go to waste due to the profligacy of my government
and be spent on studying the mating habits of river otters, and I am not referring to the amphibious aviation kind.

So I would propose the following modality of the transfer of these funds to a bank account agreeable to both yourself and my accounts manager...

Think of the warbirds you could spend this on!
Sincerely...etc
:D :D :D :D :D
Welcome aboard Maki.
Lurk no longer
:D

Considering the quality of the information I have enjoyed so far, WIX is well worth the effort. Thank you for the welcome.
