The P-47 markings looked familar to me and checked the books I have .
The 53 FS code was 6V with a Blue nose and tail was yellow .
The blue was a squadron marking and yellow tail was Group marking that changed around with differant parts of the tail painted.
There is a web sight with P-47 serial numbers but 44-20456 is in the 368 FG but a 44-20466 is in the 53 FS but this might not be correct?

Rick, thank you so much for that info. I got that serial number from the picture. I will clean my glasses & check it again. I bet it is 44-20466.

"My" B24 Crew. The Richard Fry crew, 736th BS, 454th BG, 15th AF. Lost to flak over Vienna on February 14, 1945. I spent 10 years of pre internet time, learning my way around the records game finding out the story of this crew for the brothers of the pilot and co-pilot. Pathfinder crew with 7 killed, 5 POW.
No prouder moment for me then when the 2 surviving crew told me I'd become part of the crew, and in helping the two brothers have memorial services for thier siblings who never came home.
