I have always found Assembly Ships interesting. I read this story about the history of a certain ship and was totally hooked. Does anyone out there have any other stories or pics of these aircraft? I will post the link and hope some of you enjoy it too

Yea, those are interesting. I believe that Jack Cook posted a series of color shots of some formation ships. Perhaps he could repost them here.

In all seriousness, I just read the history link on the first post - what a great story - where folks find these docs and photos amazes me. I love it.
I particularly liked that the story mentioned both the "red diagonal" on the maintenance forms and the crew going to their "stations". The AF still uses the same maintenence symbols and we still brief a "stations time" (in the C-130) when everyone will be ready to check in on interphone.

Here's an RC assembly ship...
"Jim McDermott's B-24 complete with color scheme of the flight assembly ship “Lil Cookie,” which sported yellow spots all over to make it more visible to the assembling aircraft. The model has a 76-inch wingspan, and is powered by 16 cells driving four S-480 motors."
