The Razorback P-47 was called that because the area behined the cockpit came up to a sharp thin angle (like a shaving razor)not because it looked like a razorback hog. The P-51B spine is rounded not razor sharp.
The photo of Beeson's P-51B is real nice.
I think the differance in OD in the photo is because it rained and the darker looking OD is just still wet.The ground is still wet from rain or the P-51 was just cleaned.?.
Well my 2 cents anyway.

99.999% of pilots and crewman, when I've asked what type P-51 they flew or worked on, replied "razorbacks". I'll go with that!!

D. As we all know the (current) wide availability of the 'D' model is because it was the important one, not those other funny looking ones - so I thought they all worked on 'D' models, anyway?

K. What did the 0.001 crewman say? Or was he too small to hear?

I'm not disagreeing .I was stating why the P-47D Razorback was called Razorback.
I don't know why the P-51B was/is called a razorback,Arkansas razorback maybe?
Ask my uncle who worked on P-51's in WW2 and he dose not remember if they used that or not.
Anyway still a very nice looking plane.
