Maybe if you guys repeat the term razorback a gazillion more times it will actually be true?

You know, alot of people and organizations say they promote aviation history, but it seems they only want to promote what they think happened, as opposed to finding out what actually did happen. Do and say what ever you like. Accuracy isn't important, is it?

Recently had the question put to a noted WWII Mustang pilot. Came back the only razorback he knew was a Thunderbolt. At least I'm asking. Are you?

Lets not split hairs is beautiful it will fly thats all I need! Razorback or not WGAS :?:

As long as you're not trying to make it look absolutely clean at all times, we haven't found flat paint is any harder to maintain; a few oil spots and exhaust stains just add character :D !
I find the modern 2-pack polyurethene flat paints are actually suprisingly smooth in their surface finish and not too difficult to keep clean. The biggest problem I have personally experienced on the US/Canada side of the Atlantic seems to be in agreeing/controlling the level of surface sheen with the paint shop as certain brands of paint do not come in a flat finish from the factory but have to have flattening agent introduced at the mixing/application stage. I presume there is a flat finish aerospace 2-pack polyurethene paint that is readily available in the US (and that I have just not found it yet)?

Is there still that wrecked razor back mustang outside of someone's hangar. It was pretty rough? I think it was O.D. with a white spinner? Any word on that one?

Man that's nice ,I hope they keep it kinda plain.

It is nice, and it's absolutely beautiful! It looks like they've painted it in flat paint as well. I'm a sucker for flat paint, because it adds so much more realism to the restoration. I know it's a HUGE pain in the ass to maintain and clean, but I do appreciate the hard work it takes for this!

Clean? Why would anyone want to do that? I've spent hundreds of hours making my models look really dirty to be accurate! :)

Far as I know it's still sitting outside of Pacific Fighters...

I've always seen s/n with the last digit of the year and the s/n (ex 535050 built in '45)... but this has the last two 436819 built in '43... was that original to have the last two? (I'm assuming it is) Just curious... haven't seen it b4..... wartime photos?

I believe it is the year of the contract, '43.

I understand that but I normally see the year denoted as the last digit plus the s/n ex 535050 (5 is for '45 and 35050 is the s/n) just don't remember seeing it with the 2 digit year. Im sure its original, just like to see a original pic of an example

It's a mistake... a small but very noticeable one on an otherwise spectacular aircraft. All P-51Bs rolling out of the factory had their serials exactly as you describe, including Beeson's aircraft. Here's a pic of the original Boise Bee, from Peter Randall's excellent site... although you can't see the serial, you can see the nose art and the general worn condition of the airframe.
