Also, for the Wings Over Houston airshow at Ellington in about 2001 or 2002, they had over 100 W.W. II aircraft in the skies, all in formation, at the same time for a mass flyby. That was supposedly the largest formation of warbirds in the air at the same time since the end of W.W. II. I have video of that in my archives somewhere.

I'm assuming the story is being perpetuated by the same fellow who told the audience at OSH '95 that the Saturday formation of 180-some warbirds was the largest since WWII! :P

Thank goodness we have airshow announcers to educate the masses.

I was told 2005 or 2006 Wings over Houston had 100 piston engine airplanes buzzin', but that included non WW2 and the Tora bunch (semi-ww2).

Perhaps so, but they advertised it as such, and the airshow announcer said it also. It was large, though! Definitely the largest formation I'd ever seen since I had been going to airshows since the early 70's, including Airsho' and Oshkosh. It may not have been the biggest ever, but it was still very enjoyable.

Anyways, it was VERY cool and one of those moments I'll never forget! :D
