Hi All,
Came across these on e bay, then I wondered when colour slides started to be used.
Also I didn't know the long nose skyrocket flew in these silver and yellow colours.
Anyone know when it went to the blue/grey USN scheme.

Out of curiosity, anyone know why the skyrocket wasn't a '*****cat',
( i.e. wildcat/hellcat/tigercat etc).

Cheers
Jerry

Neat pics!

As for the name, I think that when the XF5F was concieved, Grumman hadn't really settled on the "Cat" theme yet.

Wasn't that the plane that the "Blackhawks" flew in the comic books?

Hi All,
glad you liked the like to the e bay photos,
great profile, luckily currently the skyrocket stuff doesn't seem to go for great prices on e bay, I like 'twins' and have slowly had to drop out of the 'whirlwind market', but the other 'fringe twins' still seem to go for reasonably prices.
yeah, I think it was the one in the comic books, I personally like the long nose version, I suppose the short nose looked more futuristic in those days.
cheers
jerry

True- that was used in this comics in so called Falcon squadron or so on. I did not know this and one member of my forum have talk to us about that. We did not have that comics in Europe, we have some other, so that was very interesting to see. As I know there is also movie about the same squadron.

Cheers :P

Regarding the dates, color movies , which are essentialy "slides" or transparencies, existed in the 30s. I believe "Wizard of Oz" and "Fantasia" were pretty early examples and they were released in '39, IIRC.
